Ashleen's Wee Blog

This is me, writing about writing

I've drafted another short story, called "Reflections." It'll take a lot of work to get it from what it is on paper to what it is in my head, but I like the idea well enough that I'm willing to revise it as many times as I need to. It's about an old woman remembering her grandmother and deciding what she's going to leave to her granddaughters.

I answered a few more inmate letters this week, but didn't get much else done because I had to deal with website problems (which are not yet fully resolved). But I did manage to get the ms. of ~Enchantment Encumbered~ ready for my co-author and another person to proof. I'll be going through it again, too, as will my in-house editor and proof-reader (a.k.a. Husband-man).

By the time the four of us finish proofing it and I finish consolidating the corrections, we may have solved our cover dilemma. We've designed one that we really like, but we don't have the art chops (or programs) to get it camera ready. We're exploring a couple of sources for possible help with that, and if they don't come through, we'll have to go with one of the stock covers available from the printer.

I kind of doubt we'll make our self-imposed deadline of 1 September, but we won't be far behind it, and I do think it's reasonable to think we'll have this book out by the end of this year. Scary as the whole idea of self-publishing is, I'm beginning to feel a little bit of "woo hoo" mixed in with the "omigods, what are we doing?"

From this afternoon till Monday afternoon, though, I'm not working on anything. We're camping this weekend. I'll have a notebook and a pen with me, of course, but I'm not taking any drafts to look at or anything. I expect to be relaxed, refreshed, and resinspired when we get back, though, and rarin' to go again.

Till next week, ta! Keep your toner dry and keep writing!

Ashleen
