Honor and Remembrance
Hi!
Well, I am lucky that at least four of "my" veterans are safe and sound. My husband is a Viet Nam vet. His two brothers were both in Korea -- in the '70's, not the '50's -- and though we've lost touch with one, we know the other's doing fine. A friend of ours is still on active duty in the Air Force, though a medical condition keeps him from deployment overseas. And another friend recently retired from the National Guard, having served all over the world. I'm thinking of them all, and their brothers-in-arms, today.
Our thoughts go out to the memories and families of all those who have died serving our country. Husband-man and I oppose the current war (as we have opposed most of those since WWII), but we support the men and women who serve, because we know that they believe they're doing their duty, and we appreciate their patriotism. We think of ourselves as patriotic too -- unless we exercise it, it's a mockery to let people lay down their lives for freedom, isn't it?
